I love this quote, but never knew who to said it. It is so very true. When you do something just to benefit someone and don’t care about accolades, you are amazed at what can be accomplished. For example, look at Homes for Humanity (or is it Houses?) but it is all totally unknown people that do the work, the only ones that get any notoriety are the corporations that donate the supplies and that isn’t necessarily that they wanted it either, but got caught bringing it in while it was being televised. All the people that put the home together got no “credit’ for it but look what gets accomplished! Nice quote! Thanks for posting it!
Isn’t how that works? Big Corporations get all the kudos, and the average Joe is lucky if he gets a pat on the back. Yet if average Joe commits a crime, big or small, he gets his notoriety in the local media. It sucks when small people do good, and don’t get shit in return…
Well, recently big corporates have been getting hit… auto industry recalls. But I know what you mean.
I happen to love to do things and not let the left hand not know what the right hand did. When I was able, I would pay for someone’s check in a restaurant as I was leaving and asked for them not to disclose who paid, and I included the tip. Have you heard of the Starbuck phenomenon of the people paying for the order behind them? It was amazing! I don’t know if all the news agencies covered it but I saw it on Fox.
I know what you mean though. Personally, I don’t want credit for any good I may do. I have a lot of bad seed that I’ve sown in my life so if I sow good seed, I hope to choke out the bad seed before I am dead too early for it. I believe what the Bible says, What you sow, that you shall reap.
And that goes for everyone, big corporations or us little guys. Pay it forward. That’s shrinking down your quote in a sense, wouldn’t you agree?
Yes I did read about the Starbucks pay it forward, and it was great, till the jerk screwed it up, and that was the end of it. As for credit; give credit where credit is due…
Been there done that and it can really work – had several projects with teams – the team got credit for doing the almost impossible but I also made sure to thank and give credit when someone did a bit of extra effort
