Well, sorry has nothing to do with sorrow, it’s a conventional communication tool without significant semantics. There are quite a lot of words like this and they are important in humsn communication. In the Germanic languages they came into use in the 16th c., in the beginning mostly for reasons of rhythm.
Nevertheless, we like King’s novels.
