Anxiety
So an ancient once said, “Accept the anxieties and difficulties of this life”. Don’t expect your practice to be clear of obstacles. Without hindrances the mind that seeks enlightenment may be burnt out. So an ancient once said, “Attain deliverance in disturbances”.

I feel like …..
Below is an anonymous quote that I can vouch for. With this damn head cold, that is now slowly going away, I could not get my head to wrap around in responding to the comments left on the past several posts. It will be probably be a couple or more days of sporadic posting.
Be well, everyone.

Liberal
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label
Liberal? If by Liberal they mean, as they want people to believe,
someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local
government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar,
then … we are not that kind of Liberal. But if by a Liberal
they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone
who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who
cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their
housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and
their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break
through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies
abroad, if that is what they mean by a Liberal, then I’m proud
to say I’m a Liberal.
— John F. Kennedy
The above quote by the 35th President of the US, should be heeded
by the right-wingers, and the so-called Tea Party politicians. Sadly
it is not their want. They rather see people lose their jobs, deny them
health care, food and other necessities of life.
They get their jollies off, bashing the current president, repeatedly
lying for just about everything he says and does. It just doesn’t make
any sense at all.
I could go on, but I’m sure you’ll get what I am saying.

Literature
The many great gardens of the world, of literature and poetry,
of painting and music, of religion and architecture, all make the
point as clear as possible: The soul cannot thrive in the
absence of a garden. If you don’t want paradise, you are not
human; and if you are not human, you don’t have a soul.
— Thomas Moore

Tire Track
While I was standing outside, during the middle of the afternoon, I took my phone out and was going to a photo of the snow covering the yews. When I looked to see how that pic came out, I saw this photo of the tire track and the curb to the left of it. The photo was taken by accident, so decided to post it.

Will Rogers
From the email inbox:
Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash in Alaska with bush pilot Wiley Post, was one of the greatest political country/cowboy sages this country has ever known.

ABOUT GROWING OLDER…
First ~ Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know ‘why’ I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren’t paved.
Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
Sixth ~ I don’t know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it’s such a nice change from being young.
Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.
Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable and relaxed.
Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it’s called golf.
And, finally ~ If you don’t learn to laugh at trouble, you won’t have anything to laugh at when you’re old.

Will
We rely upon the poets, the philosophers, and the playwrights
to articulate what most of us can only feel, in joy and sorrow.
They illuminate the thoughts for which we only grope; they
give us the strength and balm we cannot find in ourselves.
Whenever I feel my courage wavering I rush to them. They will
give me the wisdom of acceptance, the will and resilience to
push on.

Observation
The Indian philosopher J. Krishnamurti once remarked that
observing without evaluating is the highest form of human
intelligence. When I first read this statement, the thought,
‘What nonsense!’ shot through my mind before I realized that
I had just made an evaluation.
— Marshall Rosenberg

Beliefs
In religion and politics people’s beliefs and convictions
are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without
examination, from authorities who have not themselves
examined the questions at issue but have taken them at
second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions
about them were not worth a brass farthing.
— Mark Twain

Equality
Is there equality before the law? At every stage of the judicial
process–facing the policeman, appearing in court, being freed
on bond, being sentenced by the judge–the poor person is
treated worse than the rich, the black treated worse than the
white, the politically or personally odd character is treated
worse than the orthodox.

I would rather be ashes ……
I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should be burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
— Jack London
Opportunity
The lure of the distant and the difficult is
deceptive. The great opportunity is where you are.
— John Burroughs
Music
Once upon a time, wasn’t singing a part of everyday life as much as talking, physical exercise, and religion? Our distant ancestors, wherever they were in this world, sang while pounding grain, paddling canoes, or walking long journeys. Can we begin to make our lives once more all of a piece? Finding the right songs and singing them over and over is a way to start. And when one person taps out a beat, while another leads into the melody, or when three people discover a harmony they never knew existed, or a crowd joins in on a chorus as though to raise the ceiling a few feet higher, then they also know there is hope for the world.

Advice
Look, I really don’t want to wax philosophical, but I will say that
if you’re alive, you got to flap your arms and legs, you got to
jump around a lot, you got to make a lot of noise, because life
is the very opposite of death. And therefore, as I see it, if
you’re quiet, you’re not living. You’ve got to be noisy, or at
least your thoughts should be noisy and colorful and lively.
— Mel Brooks
