2018 Looking Back

The first few months was not all that great. I was mildly overweight, sluggish, and sleeping a lot more than I should have been. Also, I would make numerous trips to the bathroom, and getting weaker each day. Then, on the night of May 14, I so fucking weak, that I need help to getting up off of the couch. i told my live-in partner to call for the ambulance. Off to the emergency room, and the nurse started immediately working on me. I have no idea how many IVs went through, as my glucose reading was sky high. I was in ICU for 2 1/2 days, still feeding me the IVs, and that was when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The second half of the year, I have made great strides, as the A1C is normal, blood pressure is very good, and my lungs are clear, even after 40 plus years of smoking. I actually quit smoking, the same day I was admitted in the hospital. plus my weight is where it should be.

Now, I watch what I eat and drink, and it’s working out, for the better.

I don’t miss anything about the 1960s ~ Grace Slick, Singer-songwriter

“I don’t miss anything about the 1960s, not really. I did it. It’s like asking, ‘Do you miss the fourth grade?’ I loved the fourth grade when I was in it, but I don’t want to do it again.”
~ Grace Slick – Born October 30, 1939

To Hold Our Tongues ~ Hermann Hesse

“To hold our tongues when everyone is gossiping, to smile without hostility at people and institutions, to compensate for the shortage of love in the world with more love in small, private matters; to be more faithful in our work, to show greater patience, to forgo the cheap revenge obtainable from mockery and criticism: all these are things we can do.”
~ Hermann Hesse

Loneliness Was A Reality ~ Stephen King

He began to cry, not hysterically or screaming as people cry when concealed rage with tears, but with continuous sobs who has just discovered that he’s alone and will be for long. He cried because safety and reason seemed to have left the world. Loneliness was a reality, but in this situation madness was also remotely a possibility.
~ Stephen King

Writing Slowly With Revisions ~ Jack Kerouac

“I spent my entire youth writing slowly with revisions and endless rehashing speculation and deleting and got so I was writing one sentence a day and the sentence had no FEELING. Goddamn it, FEELING is what I like in art, not CRAFTINESS and the hiding of feelings.”
~ Jack Kerouac

The Beat Generation ~ Jack Kerouac

“The Beat Generation, that was a vision that we had, John Clellon Holmes and I, and Allen Ginsberg in an even wilder way, in the late forties, of a generation of crazy, illuminated hipsters suddenly rising and roaming America, serious, bumming and hitchhiking everywhere, ragged, beatific, beautiful in an ugly graceful new way.”
~ Jack Kerouac

Controlling The Mind ~ Edward Bernays

“If we understand the mechanisms and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing it In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.”
~ Edward Bernays
